TopTips – Design – Sinks and splashbacks… keeping it clean

Your SINK should ideally have a minimum rear splashback of 250mm… for obvious reasons. A bench top running level into the window sill looks great… but not the resulting water splashes and marks on the window! The simple solution is to make the sink bench top deeper, 700-800mm, so that splashes land on the bench top and not the window. The same applies to a sink in an island or breakfast bar: make the bench top deeper, 750-900mm deep.

TopTips – Appliances – Fridges & Freezers… some cool facts

Refrigerators and freezers are usually deeper than normal kitchen cabinets and can look quite unsightly if they protrude beyond the cabinet face-line. The simple solution is to extend adjacent cabinetry, panels and bench tops to align with your cold storage unit. However, most two door fridge/freezers are an exception because their thicker doors and icemaker unit often need to open 150-180 degrees to give full access to the contents. If this type of unit is built ‘level’ there can be a problem when the narrower freezer door won’t open fully to allow access. Always discuss your current and future cold storage needs with your designer.
